Grace Centers of Hope is the oldest and largest faith-based, residential, one year life skills program in southeast Michigan. Grace Centers of Hope offers a comprehensive 1 year life skills program for men, women, and children who are suffering from the effects of drug and alcohol addiction. Each year we provide over 100,000 meals and 50,000 nights of stay to our residents, free of charge. Grace Centers of Hope receives NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING.

The Jalen Rose Leadership Academy (JRLA) is an open enrollment, tuition free, public charter high school on the Northwest side of Detroit. The Academy currently serves over 400 ninth through twelfth grade students and graduated its inaugural class in June 2015 – one hundred percent of the Academy’s graduates have gained college, trade/technical school or military acceptance.
JRLA provides a leadership-focused education that engages and inspires youth to achieve at the rigorous level necessary to ultimately graduate with a college degree.  Focused on a 9-16 model, the College Success Team works ceaselessly with current scholars and alumni to provide college counseling and support to not only make sure they graduate from high school, but college as well – outcomes that are real game changers in urban education. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

 

 

 

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and its Southeast Michigan Chapter, is dedicated to creating a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, developing suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and providing support for those affected by suicide. We have local engagement, sponsorship, leadership and volunteer opportunities for everyone passionate about saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.

– Local/community partnerships – half of all of our fundraising is set aside for local programming, services, and impact – we need organizations, businesses, schools, hospitals, clinicians to partner with to put those dollars to work in our communities.

Accounting Aid Society (AAS) helps grow an economy that works for everyone in Detroit and southeast Michigan through the delivery of
programs and services that strengthen economic self-sufficiency and financial potential. These include individual income tax services; personal financial coaching; tax debt relief and IRS dispute resolution; and sound financial management practices for small businesses. Through a combination of coaching, education, and individual actions, AAS touched the lives of more than 26,000 in 2016 by delivering 42,000 services
that facilitated an economic impact of $28 million to the region.

St. Anne’s Mead has a 51-year legacy of caring for older adults with the highest quality in assisted living, extended / nursing care and will open a state-of-the-art memory care home in 2018. As a non-profit 501(c)3 organization, St. Anne’s Mead also educates the public-at-large on how to communicate effectively with someone living with dementia, how to prevent elder abuse and other issues to help our seniors live the best quality life possible. Memory care is a great and growing need in our society. Currently, 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia. By 2050, this number is expected to nearly triple to 14 million.

Help us give local kids a great night’s sleep!

We’re teaming up with Fox 2 to make sure local kids in need get a great night’s sleep.

Children need sleep to be healthy and to do well in school and in life. That’s why Gardner-White is donating 1,000 mattresses to children who need beds. Children served by the nonprofit organizations Coalition On Temporary Shelter (COTS) and Humble Design will get new mattresses – and better sleep!

You can help too! Drop off a pair of new kids pajamas at any Gardner-White now through the end of September.

Lighthouse of Oakland County provides guidance and resources to help Southeast Michigan individuals and families move from economic crisis towards stability and self-sufficiency. Lighthouse operates Oakland County’s only five-day-per-week
food pantry.

Kadima has many great volunteer opportunities for individuals, groups and families. Our annual Gardening Day takes place at the beginning of June and is a great one-time event for individuals, families, groups and business teams.  There are also ongoing opportunities working directly with clients, as well as many committee roles, including the Lois Zussman Kadima Golf Classic, Engagement Committee and Creative Expressions Council.

 

Arts & Scraps

 

 

 

 

 

Arts & Scraps reimagines 28 tons of recycled material, inspiring 275,000 people of all ages to think, create and learn. Programs are a community store, curriculum-oriented workshops for all ages, creative activities at public events and kits for classrooms and individuals.

These are items we must purchase: children’s scissors, packaging tape, cleaning supplies/liquid hand soap, copy paper, rolls of standard paper towels for dispenser. Visit http://ArtsAndScraps.org for a list of materials from home or business you may be throwing away.

Groups ages 8 and up (maximum of 25 volunteers) can visit the air-conditioned, heated private warehouse to prepare materials and pack kits; scheduled at the group’s convenience. Call Tonia at 313-640-9050. Small groups (maximum of 5) can assist in the store on Monday. Call Deborah at 313-640-4411 x 4. Individuals can drop in the store during open hours (Tuesday, Thursday 11a.m.- 6 p.m., Saturday 11a.m. – 4p.m.) to help. Check website calendar for event activities throughout the metro area. Volunteers aged 8 and up help families at creative centers. Registration is online through the site. Individuals can also volunteer in their area of expertise.
