Rachel Stewart’s been hearing talk about the furniture business, the ups and downs of retail and how important it is to give back to the community at her family’s dinner table since she was a child.

And she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Today, she’s carrying the mantle for her family, the company and helping metro Detroit as president of Gardner White — the furniture retailer celebrating its 110th anniversary this year. It’s grown to 13 stores, which is significant considering the fallout in the retail sector that has seen competitors like Art Van disappear.

Stewart is the fourth generation of her family to run the company.

Borrowing a page from her parents (Barb and Steve Tronstein, who still work there), she’s helping grow the business and making an impact in metro Detroit along the way.

Gardner-White signed on as presenting sponsor of America’s Thanksgiving Parade in 2020 as that event is being held in Detroit this Thursday. And the company just signed a new deal to continue to be the presenting sponsor through 2031.
