Gardner White Donates Beds and Mattresses to Fresh Start Ministries

On Friday, August 12, our team delivered and assembled new bunkbeds, full-size bed frames, and mattresses for every bedroom at a new women’s safe house at Fresh Start Ministries in Roseville in Macomb County. It will serve as an emergency sanctuary for victims of domestic abuse and their children.

The church’s pastor, Charles Winfield, grew up with an abusive father. His mother was able to escape and Pastor Winfield—who was deeply impacted by his family’s struggles—vowed that if he ever had the privilege and opportunity, he would help battered women who had to leave in a hurry. With the help of his congregation and good Samaritans in Metro Detroit, they gutted and refurbished an old rectory on the church property that was in total disrepair.

Karen Mahone, a long time Gardner White sales associate at the company’s Shelby Township store in Macomb County, is a member of Fresh Start Ministries. She raised the need to help furnish the safe house to Gardner White leadership, who immediately committed to help.
