Gardner White to Host Detroit-Based Artist Mike Han For Live-Action Art-In-The-House Painting Party

On Tuesday, July 12th, we will be hosting Detroit-based contemporary artist Mike Han for a pop-up, live action Art-In-The-House painting party at our Canton location. The public is invited to attend this free event and watch the popular artist in action as he creates an original work of art in real time on a blank 6’x12′ canvas installation.

Guests can purchase one of 250 limited-edition, 18″x 24″ framed prints created by Han exclusively for Gardner White entitled, “To live is to find the truth within.” The net proceeds from the sale of each $300 framed print will go to the Detroit Excellence in Youth Arts (DEYA) Fund at The Children’s Foundation to support visual arts/design nonprofits teaching arts entrepreneurship to Detroit youth. The prints are available on our website now.

“Mike Han’s passion for his art, living a life of purpose and joy, and providing opportunities for Detroit youth to discover and develop their individual creative talents is inspiring and aspirational,” said Rachel Stewart, president of Gardner White. “We are delighted to give Gardner White guests an opportunity to experience his artistry in motion firsthand and meet this extraordinary man.”

The special event, emceed by Shannon Murphy, co-host of the Mojo in the Morning Show on Channel 955, will also feature signature mocktails and cocktails from Mimidae Beverage Co., Delectabowl Gourmet Food Truck, sweet treats, and a DJ.

Han’s art is inspired by Korean calligraphy, graffiti, and modern design. He describes his practice as Modern Vandalism, the mindful act of destroying materials, products and/or space to create value. He strives to illuminate the truth that we are all connected. His work contemplates sustainability and explores his heritage as a Cheongju Han, a royal Korean clan known as House of Han whose lineage dates back more than 1,000 years.

“There is so much beauty in art as well as in entrepreneurship, and I want to help young people awaken the creativity that resides within themselves and develop their unique gifts in ways that can create meaningful career paths,” said Han. “I believe the highest form of art is a life well lived.”
