Get Your Home Ready for Spring

Don’t wait until spring has sprung to get ready for the change in season. Consider taking on these projects now, during the weekends. By the time you cross them off your to-list, the warm weather will be here!

Declutter your home. Clean out the kitchen: dispose of any expired foods and outdated medicines. Make sure that living and dining room surfaces, like the dining table, are cleared and clutter-free. Examine the contents of your closet and move out-of-season clothing into storage.

Test smoke alarms. Replace the battery and test each alarm to make sure it is working. According to the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), “smoke detectors should be tested at least once a month and batteries should be replaced at least once or twice a year.”

Wash exterior windows. Don’t forget about the window screens, those need to be cleaned as well.

Clean the grill. Scrap away rust spots and check the fuel tank hose for damage. Make sure everything is safe and ready to go before the first use.

Prep your garden. Examine your tools and equipment, and take care of any needed maintenance. Style the yard and figure out what you want to plant.
