Mattresses and bed frames help Southeast Michigan families make a fresh start
One hundred mattresses and bed frames arrived at Lighthouse in Waterford Township today, thanks to Michigan’s #1 furniture and mattress store, Gardner-White and Serta who combined forces to help families in need this holiday season.
The first bed will go to Cassandra who found herself homeless after her spouse passed away. The second will go to Chara who left home at 18 and found herself homeless during the pandemic. Both women turned to Lighthouse for assistance and are excited to receive their new beds. The women greeted the trucks and received their mattress direct from Gardner-White President Rachel Stewart.
“We love that we can make a big difference in the lives of these families by giving them a good night’s sleep on these Serta mattresses and bed frames,” said Stewart. “We value our partnership with Lighthouse and are glad we can help these families on their way to self-sufficiency.”
“Since COVID-19 began, Lighthouse has quadrupled its emergency shelter capacity to help ensure no household will go without a roof over their head during this time. Thankfully, we’ve been able to help more than 100 families find permanent housing,” said Lighthouse CEO Ryan Hertz. “Having a new bed truly turns a house into a home. Gardner White has been such a generous and responsive partner throughout this pandemic, and we are so grateful to them, and of course to Serta, for this important donation.”
The beds will be shared with Lighthouse clients in PATH transitional housing, shelter, rapid rehousing, or food pantry programs. Recipients can either pick the bed up or schedule a delivery and Lighthouse will deliver the beds free of charge within two weeks.
