Saying he’s a Gardner-White veteran is an understatement. Boris Palincas has been with Gardner-White as a top sales consultant for 34 years and has no plan on stopping. He’s making a big move in his career – becoming Sales Manager at our Rochester Hills location.
Originally from Romania, Boris started a career working in a refrigeration factory but was later laid off. His wife saw that Gardner-White was opening a new store and suggested he apply. He expressed his hesitation due to his lack of knowledge of selling and the cultural differences of buying furniture in the U.S. and Romania.
In the beginning I was skeptical because I didn’t have any experience. Back in Romania, when people buy furniture, they die with it. People don’t buy as often. Why should I go sell furniture if I’ll never see these customers again? Once I got into the business, I realized it’s different in the U.S. than in Romania.
Boris took a leap of faith and applied and started working at the Gardner-White store on 14 Mile Rd. in Warren immediately. While it took a little time for him to get the hang of selling, he quickly became a natural at it.
Little by little, I learned the business, my English got better and I was very much a natural.
Boris quickly grew to love his new job because he loved helping and working with people and still does to this day. While no two days are the same, in the end, everyone is looking for the perfect furniture to fill their home and he’s happy that he can help his customers do that and get the best value for their money.
He knows Gardner-White is special because of the family atmosphere.
Gardner-White is very much a family-owned company. They take care of their employees, care about the customers and they lead by example. They know everything that’s going on and want to be involved in every aspect of the company to make sure everything is going as smoothly as possible. This is the 4th generation, that doesn’t happen that often.
While working at Gardner-White for 34 years, Boris has been able to develop great relationships with the family. Starting working with the Kahns and now the Tronsteins, he’s appreciative of the opportunities they’ve given him.
Boris has been married for 30 years and has three children. Fun fact: His kids worked a couple summers in the Gardner-White warehouse!
They understand my business more now because they worked a couple of summers here in our warehouse. They have a better idea of what’s going on here and can appreciate it a little bit more now since they know what’s involved in selling furniture.
Boris urges anyone who is even thinking about joining the Gardner-White team to do it!
One of the greatest things about this business is that you don’t have to have a college degree. As long as you like working with people and helping people, this is a great opportunity.
You can choose to work however many days you want and we offer great benefits including tuition reimbursement, 401k and flexible hours. You can apply for a position here.
Boris Palincas is a great example of the growth you can achieve at Gardner-White. Starting as someone who’s never worked in sales before and knowing little English, he is now one of our top sales consultants, a member of our President’s Club and now the Sales Manager at our Rochester Hills location.
