#Charituesday Contest – Our HOME Pantry vs. Angels’ Place

Our HOME Pantry

The mission of the pantry is not only to provide food, but to offer other needed resources, opportunities and empowerment. The pantry falls under the City of Garden City’s Community Resource Department, which offers pantry clients no-cost state benefits application assistance and/or other assistance programs. The pantry is also under the Family Resource Center, which offers youth and family programs such as Strengthening Families along with many other programs. The pantry is by appointment only, and is client choice. Each person is allowed 10 pounds of food per family member up to 50 pounds per household.

AGES SERVED: All ages 

WISH LIST: We accept any non-perishable items. 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: We have several opportunities for volunteering, stocking shelves in the afternoon, picking up the weekly Gleaners order on a rotating basis and picking up day old bakery items from our local Starbucks and Panera. 

AGE OF VOLUNTEERS: Adults and children 10 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult) 

Angel’s Place

Angels’ Place is a nonprofit organization providing homes and services for individuals with developmental disabilities since 1992. We have 20 homes in the tri-county area and a day program in Southfield. Angels’ Place relies on volunteers and on donations to provide loving, caring homes. 

AREAS SERVED: Wayne County, Oakland County, Macomb County 


– Non perishable items – toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies 
– Tablets or iPads for residents use 
– Tickets to sporting events, zoo, or concerts for resident’s enjoyment 
– Van for transportation, occasional moving services 
– Business that would wash our large vans, car wash certificates 

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: We are always looking for volunteers for our Enrichment program operating Monday-Thursday 10-2 pm. You can volunteer a day or a few hours. A volunteer application is required and can be found on our website. 

AGE OF VOLUNTEERS: Adults and children 16 and up (children must be accompanied by an adult)
