Detroit PAL’s mission, in partnership with the Detroit Police Department and more than 1,800 community volunteers, is to build character in young people through athletic, academic, and leadership development programs. Detroit PAL serves more than 14,000 youth participants each year in every neighborhood of Detroit. PAL offers 11 different athletic programs and multiple youth enrichment opportunities to boys and girls, ages 4-19.

AREAS SERVED: Wayne County, Oakland County, Macomb County

AGES SERVED: 4-19

WISH LIST: New or gently-used athletic equipment

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Detroit PAL trains and certifies more than 1,700 community volunteers each year to be coaches and mentors to youth in Detroit. In addition to coaching, volunteers are needed for field clean-up projects.

Kids Kicking Cancer

 

 

 

 

 

 

Kids Kicking Cancer, a non-profit founded in Michigan in 1999, is dedicated to using martial arts therapy to empower and ease pain in children with cancer, sickle cell and other life-threatening illnesses. All services are provided at no charge to families served, including classes, uniforms, and, in some locations, transportation to and from classes and events.

AREAS SERVED: Wayne County, Oakland County, Macomb County, Washtenaw County, State of Michigan

AGES SERVED: 3 through 25 (if treated in pediatric facility).

WISH LIST:
– Single-serve wrapped healthily snacks & juice boxes
– Gas cards
– Gift cards to Michael’s, Target, Meijer, etc.
– Books for children, teens & young adults
– Winter hats, gloves and mittens
– New toys

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Volunteers needed for events, office work, drivers with CDL, Black Belt martial artists for working with children.

AGE OF VOLUNTEERS? Mainly adults. Teen volunteers accepted based on activity.
