Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide.

About the Muscular Dystrophy Association

Having received a $500 Gardner-White gift certificate for participating, the Muscular Dystrophy Association is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. The Greater Detroit MDA office services more than 2300 local families and individuals living with a neuromuscular disease. These neuromuscular diseases include motor neuron diseases such as ALS and SMA, muscular dystrophies such as Duchenne’s and Limb Girdle, peripheral neuropathies such as CMT and Friedreich’s Ataxia, myopathies, and metabolic diseases of the muscle. The Greater Detroit MDA is proud to provide multidisciplinary specialty clinics, an equipment loan closet and funding for equipment repairs, flu shots, support groups, advocacy, education, family events, support and resources. The MDA Summer Camp program offers a week long, barrier-free camp for children ages 6-17. Out with the old, in with the new!

In June of this year we donated 35 dressers to the Christ Child House. The video above is from WXYZ Channel 7.  Check it out and read the article below that Christ Child House president elect, Laura Keziah.  We were thrilled to hear the great news and couldn’t resist sharing with you.

“The boys at the Christ Child House were busy folding their clothes and cleaning their rooms on the morning of June 15th. Their old dressers were being removed, and brand-new furniture, provided by Gardner-White, was delivered!

They were so excited to have something nice and new in their rooms — they were proudly showing us their tidy rooms and the awesome “Fatheads” sports posters on their walls. Gardner-White delivered 35 dressers, some tall, and some short and long. They were black with silver knobs and a huge improvement over what was replaced! Channel 7 WXYZ was there to interview John Yablonky, Pamela Hildebrand and Rachel Tronstein from Gardner-White. The segment ran on the news at 4 pm that day, and was such a nice piece on our Christ Child House!

Rachel, the President of Gardner-White, was impressed with our facility, our staff, and especially our boys. They were so happy and eager to talk to her, show her their rooms, and talk sports and Legos with her! She was endeared to our boys! Let’s hope this can be a relationship that will continue between the Christ Child Society and Gardner-White. THank you to Gardner-White.”

– by President-elect Laura Keziah

Gardner-White is elated to be able to make such a difference in the community. Words cannot describe how amazing it feels every time we help out with a donation such as this.  For more information please visit

Charituesday: Children w Hair Loss vs Oakland Family Services

The winner from our September 15th Charituesday contest that YOU helped vote for was Children With Hair Loss!  They will be receiving a $1,000 gift certificate to Gardner-White to use for their organization.

Regina, a mom and grandma, a hairstylist, cosmetology instructor, hair replacement specialist and former salon owner, brings over 30 years of experience.

Regina started this non-profit organization after her niece, Sarah, a 28-year survivor, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the tender age of three. She underwent chemotherapy for five years.

During Sarah’s treatment, she had seen so many children that either didn’t have hair or were wearing outdated synthetic wigs. Being in the hair industry, Regina knew that hair pieces were very expensive and most families could not afford human hair. She recognized a strong need to provide children who have medically related hair loss with human hair replacements. Throughout the years Regina’s dream evolved into a mission.

Giving was always an important part of her life and after her niece’s treatment it was all about seeing how she could use her own talent and experience to give back. She has taken it as her personal mission to “Cover Young Heads to Heal Young Hearts”.

Since opening in 2000, CWHL has helped thousands of children with hair loss at no cost to the family.

Don’t miss out on Children With Hair Loss Charity Ball!   Why?  That’s where they are auctioning off the $1,000 gift certificate so you can have a chance to win it!

Children With Hair Loss is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2000 and created as a resource for children who have medically-related hair loss from Cancer Treatment, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, and many other hair loss reasons.  It is our mission to improve the lives of children suffering from hair loss, by making human hair replacements and care kits available to them at NO COST to them or their families.  We also provide support and education to our recipients and to our volunteer cosmetologists and barbers.  Our services and products are provided free of charge to recipients annually until age 21.

Our goal is to change the lives of children by improving their confidence and empowering them with renewed self-esteem.  We currently provide human hair replacements and care kits FREE of charge to more than 300 children annually.  We can continue to increase the number of children we service by building new opportunities, partnerships, and supporters.  We hope you will join us in our mission of “COVERING YOUNG HEADS TO HEAL YOUNG HEARTS!”

About the Oakland Family Services

Oakland Family Services will also be receiving a $500 gift certificate.  These organizations were thrilled to be part of this contest and wanted to express their appreciation for the votes they received.

Since 1921, Oakland Family Services has been dedicated to strengthening individuals and families by providing quality treatment, education and prevention services throughout SE Michigan. Individuals and families today struggle with problems that require professional support and guidance throughout all phases of life. Substance abuse, depression, family violence, child abuse, divorce, death and a host of other problems contribute to feelings of loneliness and confusion. Stressed families need assistance with day care, parenting issues, and elder care.

With five locations in Oakland County serving approximately 30,000 people every year, Oakland Family Services is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) human service organization dedicated to providing individuals and families the opportunity to build brighter futures.
