Gardner-White Sponsors Gleaner’s Hunger Free Summer

Gleaner’s Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan along with Gardner-White and Fox 2 Detroit are launching the Hunger Free Summer Campaign with the goal to provide 2 million meals to hungry children in Metro-Detroit while school is out.

Summer vacation can leave kids in struggling households vulnerable to hunger and malnutrition due to the absence of free or reduced-free school provided meals. To combat this, Gleaner’s will reach children with nutritious food through several programs including:

  • · 60 monthly mobile pantries that serve up to 150 families each;
  • · 80 summer lunch sites, serving 50 children Monday-Friday;
  • · and Gleaner’s extensive network of over 500 partner soup kitchens & shelters.

To help aid the Hunger Free Summer campaign, Gardner-White will collect non-perishable food items at all of our locations starting April 30th, 2015 through September 6th, 2015. Not only are food donations needed, but the Hunger Free Summer campaign is also accepting monetary donations which will be matched by generous sponsors like Gardner-White. Every dollar donated will provide six meals to hungry children this summer.

Come out to any Gardner-White and donate your non-perishable food items today. Your generous donation will help in the fight against hunger this Summer!
