Our membership is made up of active duty and retired Detroit Firefighters. We were originally organized in 1866 to aid injured Detroit firefighters, and widows and children of deceased firemen. Throughout the years we have expanded our scope to include our community and our region. Our sponsored groups rely on the Fund for assistance in a variety of areas. From financial help to copying flyers and distributing information about the groups’ events, the Firemen’s Fund is there to help them do what they do best.

Community Sharing

We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, overseen by a Board of (Volunteer) Directors and operated by nearly 200 volunteers. Because we operate primarily through volunteers, ninety cents of every donated dollar can be spent to assist the over 720 men, women and children we service each month.*

Our community’s sharing of their time, energy and finances allows us to provide a broad range of services to financially distressed families. There isn’t a month that goes by that someone in the Highland or Milford area doesn’t offer some form of charitable endeavor… a coat & boot drive, pajamas for kids, a canned food drive and more.

Community Sharing is surrounded and held by a loving community.

About Adopt A Family
(Taken from the Adopt A Family Website)

The Adopt A Family program has been serving those in need across Michigan since 1993. In the 22-year history of this special program, hope and joy – along with toys, clothing and meals — have been brought to children, seniors and veterans in poverty during the season that is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. In 2014, our community came together and served over 9,000 unique individuals.

Families and individuals apply and are screened for participation. All must demonstrate need (income at no more than 20% above the federal poverty level). Families and individuals must have children younger aged 16 and younger or be above 62 years in age and complete an application at www.adoptafamilymichigan.org

Sponsors (individuals, families, teams, organizations, businesses) adopt families for the holidays. Sponsors provide at least one new toy and one new outfit for each child in the family, as well as a special holiday meal. Many sponsors provide much more!
