A Hand Up Community Action Agency

A Hand Up Community Action Agency has been in existence since 2012. The agency was created to assist individuals that have experienced or is suffering trauma. The agency provides services to assist those with counseling, and immediate needs (tangible items.)

ALSAC/St. Jude

ALSAC is the fundraising & awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Its sole mission is to raise the funds and awareness necessary to operate and maintain the hospital. Our success means families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

ALSAC is in need of volunteers throughout the year to assist at our numerous fundraising and awareness events for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Penrickton Center for Blind Children
penrickton

Penrickton Center for Blind Children serves children who are blind and multiply handicapped, including developmental delay, orthopedic problems and seizure disorders. Our center’s mission is unique in that we provide a five-day residential day-care and consultation program to help each child become as independent as possible. Penrickton Center is a non-profit agency that receives no state, federal or United Way funding. There is no charge to the families of the children we serve. All of the money is raised from individuals in the community, service clubs and other groups. We have proudly served blind, multi-handicapped children and the community for over 60 years.

Penrickton Center depends on volunteers to fulfill multiple needs. These include working around the building and grounds with general upkeep such as painting, yard work, etc. Tasks include stuffing mail and educational materials, volunteering at large fundraising events, providing life experiences such as music and horseback riding, and working directly with the children (Following intensive training).

About Adopt A Family
(Taken from the Adopt A Family Website)

The Adopt A Family program has been serving those in need across Michigan since 1993. In the 22-year history of this special program, hope and joy – along with toys, clothing and meals — have been brought to children, seniors and veterans in poverty during the season that is supposed to be the happiest time of the year. In 2014, our community came together and served over 9,000 unique individuals.

Families and individuals apply and are screened for participation. All must demonstrate need (income at no more than 20% above the federal poverty level). Families and individuals must have children younger aged 16 and younger or be above 62 years in age and complete an application at www.adoptafamilymichigan.org

Sponsors (individuals, families, teams, organizations, businesses) adopt families for the holidays. Sponsors provide at least one new toy and one new outfit for each child in the family, as well as a special holiday meal. Many sponsors provide much more!
