What is JVS Detroit all about?

Founded in 1941 here in Detroit, JVS currently employs more than 300 people across its four offices in Metro Detroit. The bottom line is, JVS is dedicated to helping others realize their full potential and carry themselves through life with promise, confidence and a decorum that everyone deserves to feel.

The following excerpt from the JVS Detroit website describes what this organization does for our community perfectly:

“Today, JVS adapts its services to meet the changing needs of our community to help job seekers, people with disabilities, seniors, students, homeless individuals, veterans and people on probation or parole fulfill their needs and attain their goals.  The agency also helps business remain resourceful by providing HR consultation, employee recruitment and staffing and cost-effective janitorial, steam cleaning and subcontracting services.”

How Gardner-White plans to help JVS

As JVS expanded through the years, it has undertaken other wonderful organizations dedicated to helping people get back on their feet. One of them is the David B. Hermelin ORT Resource Center, which offers classes pertaining to essential computer and technology skills necessary for many of today’s career paths.

One of the items on JVS’ wish list is tablet computers to help get its students acclimated to the new technology, and that is what we at Gardner-White intend on donating. All we need from you is to share or tweet about it. After 50 mentions on social media, we make our donation. It’s that easy! We want to spread the word about a great charitable organization and this is the best way to do it. Thank you for your help and support.

 

American Red Cross Blood Drive – January 23

Winter weather affects blood supply, and The American Red Cross needs it more than ever. 

The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give blood.™ Gardner-White is sponsoring a blood drive on Thursday, January 23 at the following seven locations:

As a token of our appreciation, all participants will receive a certificate for $50 off your next purchase at any Gardner-White. Plus, each store will have a drawing in which one participant will receive a 51″ TV.

How do I know if I am eligible to donate blood?

You must be in good health, be at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 110 pounds. You will also need to pass physical and health history reviews prior to donating. There is no upper age limit on your ability to donate. Conditions that require a temporary deferral are pregnancy, travel to certain parts of the world, inoculations, some health conditions and certain medications. Call 1-800-REDCROSS or visit www.redcrossblood.org to get answers to specific eligibility questions you may have. Final eligibility is determined by medical professionals at the time of donation.

Can I schedule an appointment?

The American Red Cross has convenient appointment scheduling online at www.redcrossblood.org. For ‘step one’, enter “gardnerwhite” and then select the location and time that is best for you. You can also call 1-800-REDCROSS.

#Charituesdays Update: Angels’ Place

Giving back just feels so good.

The inaugural run of #Charituesdays was a complete success! We had more than 80 shares on Facebook and a heaping handful of tweets. As a result, Angels’ Place of Southfield will be receiving a brand-new twin mattress set for one of its residents.

A quick recap of #Charituesdays:

We are selecting one charity bi-weekly from our 2014 Giving Guide and donating an item from its wish list upon receipt of 50+ shares of our Facebook post. Our first charitable organization, Angels’ Place, is a non-profit organization that provides homes and services to persons with developmental disabilities.

Who’s the donation going to?

Not only do we know our donation is going to a very worthwhile and genuine organization, we are fortunate enough to know exactly to whom the mattress set is going.

Our friends at Angels’ Place told us one of its 15-year residents, Jack, will be receiving the mattress. He is a kind-hearted fellow who loves his housemates and cares deeply about the well-being of others. He’s even learning sign language so he can communicate with one of his housemates who is deaf. On top of that, Jack is a fan of old movies and Star Trek with a knack for cooking (especially apple crisp). His old mattress has been worn ragged, but with this new mattress, he will have the best spot in the house to watch Spock, Kirk and the rest of the crew – we just hope he shares some of his famed dessert.

2014 North American International Auto Show

NAIAS 2014 is almost here, and we want to help you get there.

The new car smell has never been as invigorating as it is at the NAIAS. With more than 40 different auto makers from around the world displaying current, future and concept-model vehicles, Cobo Hall is definitely the place to be between Jan. 18 and 26.

 

There’s actually a number of parallels between Gardner-White and the cars at the Auto Show; for instance:

This Week’s #Charituesdays: Angels of Hope

We’re more than just great deals and big sales.

For quite some time, we at Gardner-White have been all about giving our customers the best deals on furniture, mattresses and home accessories in Metro Detroit. I mean, come on; you can get a Big Picture Package with a sofa, a loveseat, three tables, two lamps, a rug, a 51″ Samsung HDTV and a free soundbar IN ONE PACKAGE. That’s a seriously good deal.

But, it’s 2014 now (weird, right?) and we’ve resolved to step up our charitable giving game. So, in addition to providing impeccable bargains for our customers, we are enabling our ‘Charituesdays’ campaign, through which we will donate items from the wish lists of local charities found in our 2014 Giving Guide. Each charity has its own list of necessities and we want to help as many as we can, but we need your help, too.

So, How’s it all going to work?

Every other Tuesday, beginning Jan. 7, 2014, we will choose a different charity from the Giving Guide and select something from its wish list to donate. We will announce the organization and the item we plan to donate through our Facebook and Twitter pages. All we ask of you is to share and/or retweet the post to your friends and followers. That’s it. If the post reaches 50 shares by the end of the week, we will donate the item(s) to the chosen charity.

How much easier could it be? The organizations get the recognition and items they need, we hold on to our New Year’s resolution, and you help us both just by clicking the “share” or “retweet” button.
